A checkmark had been added beside “Almost Kiss.”

The next list was written in purple, and it appeared to be about food.

Feed Him

Wipe His Mouth

Taste Test

Sharing Food

A couple of those had checkmarks beside them as well. After that, he read a few entries about hugging—out of fear, on a motorcycle, to avoid an accident, and so on. The list about jealousy and possessiveness had been aptly written in green, and included things like secret admirers, too-close friends, exes, and competitors.

Then a category devoted to dates. Picnics, arcades, bowling, movies, and fancy restaurants. Pretty standard stuff, really.

He noticed that every entry with a checkmark beside it coincided with things they had done together. Their picnic at the lake, where Oliver had fed him strawberries and cleaned the chocolate from his lips. Their date to the arcade. Winning a flamboyant prize. Their close encounter at the food court while looking at photos.

But what did it mean? Was it a wish list? Things he wanted to happen in their relationship? Some of them were doable, but as far as he knew, neither of them had an evil ex, and they sure as hell hadn’t started off as enemies.

Standing in the middle of the office, trying to understand, he jumped when the doorbell rang. Using his phone to snap a quick picture of the whiteboard, he shoved the device into his pocket and hurried down the hall to answer the door.

He didn’t recognize the young woman standing on the porch, but her uniform designated her as one of the hotel employees. With a smile as sunny as her blonde ponytail, she handed him a large brown paper bag.

“Thanks.” Setting the bag on the floor, he reached for his wallet where he’d left it on the table beside the door. “How much do I owe you?”

“Nothing. Compliments of the owner.”

He doubted Skye had been angling for a discount on the gazebo, but she sure as hell would get one after this. “Please thank her for me.”

“Absolutely. Have a nice day.”

“Hold on.” He flipped through his wallet and pulled out a five to pass to the female. “For your effort,” he explained. “I appreciate you coming out here.”

“My pleasure,” she assured him as she pocketed the bill. “I hope Oliver feels better soon.” She gave him a wave and turned to jog down the steps.

Jarrett waited until she had slid behind the wheel of a blue sedan before closing the door and carrying the food to the kitchen island. He unpacked the contents, spread them out on the counter, and grabbed two bottles of water from the fridge to add to the meal.

When he had everything arranged, he went back to the living room and knelt down on the floor in front of the sofa. His mate had a bit more color in his cheeks, and his skin felt warm and dry, just as it should be.

Though reluctant to wake him, he really wanted to get some food into the guy, maybe some caffeine for good measure.
